I'll be politically correct as I say that I talked to a friend today who happens to be a Native American. That being said, he prefers being called an Indian. He has no problem at all with the Redskin name. We had a very interesting conversation. His feelings on the subject are unique. He's probably one of the most politically incorrect people I know.

I know an American Indian. People ask him if they should call him Native American or American Indian? He replied, "Try using my first name."
The Redskins need to either change their name or play better.
The logo was designed by a Blackfoot artist, if it was changed to something designed by a white man, that'd be offensive.

I refuse to have any opinion about anything sports related.

However, I think it would be interesting to change the name of a particular football team to "The Murdering Savages".

Their logo would be a picture of Col. Chivington and Joachim Peiper shaking hands. Doubtless nobody would know who either were...

Should the Dallas Cowboys have to change their name if a ranch hand is offended by the word "cowboy"?

Good point, but in today's world of PC and a small percentage of certain cultures (who think they speak for) the general population are making enough noise that the (moo guys) think something should be done. If you don't know what a moo guy is.... It's just another cow following the rest of the herd. Mooooo, moooo. Personally I've never thought anything derogatory about the Redskin name. It's just a name.
Being from Minnesota, lots of things have Indian names. Nobody cares either way.
And..... I'm demanding a name change for the Vikings.
Minnesota Kid Whuppers.

My grandfather was Native American and my grandmother was Irish, both sides of the family liked their fire water.:D

In addition to all the above, I am sick and tired of a handful of people trying to dictate to everyone else, or sticking their collective noses where they don't belong. Why not try WORKING - either for wages, or something really important that matters. This name thing is a waste of time and just plain stupid-- JMHO

GO REDSKINS!!!

why wasnt the name racist 5 or 10 years ago?
can we just say the red on the skin is from war paint?
i think one of the late night shows suggested changing the logo to a sunburned white guy.

I don't care what the Redskins call themselves.

A friend hooked me up with tickets to one game.
Pretty decent seats.

The MOST OBNOXIOUS people I could have ever imagined around me.

It would cause me no dismay if the worst becomes them.

The NFL wouldn't tolerate a team called the Washington N***ers, and shouldn't tolerate a team called the Washington R****ins. Both are equally as bigoted.

Oh well, you can always count on the NFL to be backwards. They only recently "discovered" that beating up your girlfriend/wife was a bad thing.

Isn't that inherent in being involved in organized sports?

I don't care what they call themselves. The entire concept is utterly inconsequential to me.

I wouldn't care what a group of synchronized nose pickers called themselves either.

Now if the Redskins would only use the Atlanta Braves Chop Chop chant!
That would make my day! ;)

Well, let's see. Have to rename the Padres because that name might offend a priest or someone who is Catholic. Have to rename the Giants because that might offend really tall people. Have to rename any team named after a bird because that might offend someone in the Audubon Society. Have to rename the Dodgers because that might offend...oh heck let's face it the Dodgers offend everyone. :D Anyway, you might as well just give each team a number by the order in which they were created. You could have the Chicago Ones versus the Detroit Twos.

Colleges would all have their school name followed by Collegiates. So this weekend in Jacksonville you would have the Georgia Collegiates playing the Florida Collegiates. OK, it's a lot more bland than the Dawgs against the Gators but no one gets offended.

Changing names such as "cowboys" or "padres" is not the same quandary, as "redskins" is deemed to be RACIALLY insensitive. We live in an overtly PC world, where EVERYTHING is fair game for the PC thought police, legitimate and otherwise. What I think is more troubling than the Redskins name game is now many high schools and colleges are dropping traditional Native American monikers (Seminoles, Apaches, Sioux, Warriors, Braves, etc.) for fear of being labeled "insensitive" or "intolerant".
