FBI: Crime Rates Declined in 2010 - Local News - Peoria, IL - msnbc.com

FBI releases data showing a overall drop in both violent and property crime during a span of time during which those able to exerices Right-to-Carry have done so in record numbers.

It is interesting to note that the sharpest decline in crime rates (-7.5%) was in the South where EVERY state is CCW/RTC in practice.

The smallest decline (-0.4%) was the Northeast with the most states (NY, NJ, MA, CT, DE, MD) routinely denying CCW/RTC with restrictive "may issue" laws.

The West was middle of the road (-5.8%) given that populous CA greatly restricts RTC/CCW.

The Midwest was also middle of the road (-5.9%) considering WI and IL both restrict RTC and deny CCW.

Is there really a correlation here or am I reaching?

I tend to think it fits into a historical pattern and that RTC/CCW has played a role in the drop in crime. Criminals have never been fond of lawful individuals exercising their rights to self-defense. The increase in CCW/RTC is likely a key factor in declining rates of crime and violence.

Criminals and those rhetoric-preaching gun grabbers....

It seems logical to me. These stats come out every year, and every year we hear from the gun grabbers how bad the blood is running in the streets from all those guns.

3 Brady points taken away from you, Pasifikawv, for pointing this out. :D
