Hey all, I've got a set of the Wilson Spring kit for a J Frame 649.

I really don't want to mess with the trigger return spring. But was going to replace the stock hammer spring with the Wilson Reduced spring.

My question is, do you see any issues or problems with what I plan on doing?

I'm all ears.

Thanks so much!!!!

If you are using this as a carry gun I wouldn't change anything from stock. But to answer your question I have always found that you need to balance
The two springs. I've never changed one without changing the other.

I tried changing the trigger return spring and hated the feel.

I changed the hammer spring and had a failure-to-fire, and the dud round worked fine in a stock gun.

Whatever you do, test it before trusting it.

There are issues with dinking with both springs.

Light mains can lead to light firing pin strikes. You'd need to mate the spring to a load with a soft primer for reliable ignition.

The rebound spring slows the action the lighter you go. It's extremely noticeable if you go under 13 pounds.

I would never run a gun with a light weight mainspring.

Hey all, thanks for all your advice. I did put the reduced hammer spring in the gun, figured I can always swap back to the stock spring.

Took her out and test fired both DA and SA, it performed flawlessly. Nice primer strikes, no light strikes.

Cocking the hammer is better, not as hard as before.

So, I guess for me and the gun things worked out just fine.

Again thanks!

Greg
