Refinish 1917 or not?

Please dont kick me out !!!!! I was looking for a S&W 1917 and came upon a C--T of the same era, The price was $310 I couldnt resist, the numbers match to a early 1917 production , the grips match , Sent the C--t letter request in 2 weeks ago , at a local gun show , not from the seller I was advised that many were refirbs for WW2 and got a new Parkerized finish for WW2 service --- So we will see , yours looks alot like mine

I ordinarily do not recommend refinishing an old gun. But if you're going to use this as a shooter, you might as well put a good protective finish on it. I'd recommend putting an Armaloy finish (or any other good hard chrome) on it. You can shoot the snot out of it and, 20 years from now, it will look exactly the same as when it was first done.

And they look pretty durn good, too.

My opinion is not to refinish this gun or any other. Ever. I can't think of an exception. If you do, you'll gain something, but it will be outweighed by what you lose.

You will be destroying a piece of history with a refinish job.

If you want a new revolver, trade that old relic in on a new one. Most collectors would be happy to trade an nicely blued revolver of equivalent value for that old warrior.

If it was mine I would have it blued. It's a shooter, not a collector piece so you might as well make it look nice too.

The thing that caught my eye was the over all gray patina, it almost looks parkerized it has toned so well.
I think I will leave it as it is and just keep it well oiled.

Has anyone used "Barricade" I have been using that for several months now, I try to wipe down all my guns (n) and counting once a month and then use a 2x2 cleaning cloth to dry them.
A friend of mine just uses a silicone cloth, never uses oil for anything, he keeps his guns in a damp basement in a safe I didn't notice any rust.
I keep my guns in my gun room which is a large (8x12) walk-in closet next to the bedroom on the second floor, sounds big but the roof runs down at that point so it is sort of a lean-to, the safes fit in there and it is heated and has R36 insulation, actually more comfortable than my bedroom in the next room.
