I traded a Springfield MilSpec 1911 for a 686-3 in Midnight Black. It is mechanically primo, good timing, no end shake, but the finish is worn, especially on the cylinder. It appears to be all stainless except for the sights. It will probably be my hiking and fishing revolver. I really like L frames, but did not want to use my other one as a woods gun.

It needs to be refinished. I thought of a light bead blast, but not sure. Any ideas would be appreciated. I don't think the midnight black can be restored. Also, thinking of replacing the adjustable sights with a fixed sight. If anyone has experience with this, I would appreciate hearing it. Thank you.

I know nothing about Midnight Black refinishing, but as for sights look at Cylinder and slide extreme duty rear fixed sights Smith used them on the
NightGuard revolvers. Or you could also look at Bowen Classic arms they have very strong replacement adjustable's if you are concerned about breakage.I have put a couple on my Ruger SA as Rugers sights look worse (flimsy)then Smiths to me.
