reloading 45 acp

I have .453 dia round nose lead bullets...they weight 234 grains.
Is the diameter ok through a 45 1911?

Do you know the make or brand of bullet?. Where did you get the diameter and weight? Just wondering if you measured and weighed it as both numbers are odd. Could just be a 452 diam and 230 gr bullet. Take your barrel out and drop it in the chamber. Should just "plunk" in there. Use a dowel or pencil to push it out if it sticks. Of course a picture always helps.

i think the bullet diameter is too big...it wont slide all the way into the chamber with the barrel out.
factory loads and some reloads made with hornady RN lead slide right in.

Most 1911 barrels will take up to a .452 bullet and are very dependent on seating depth and amount of crimp. Soft pure lead is still too hard but they make alloy for slugging a barrel. That would be your best bet. FWIW, the Lee Factory Crimp die just touches my cast loads and I guess just swages them ever so slightly. They are accurate and no feeding issues.

I was having some problems with lead bullets until I started seating and crimping separately. Seating and crimping at the same time often pushed up a small lip of lead at the mouth of the case that kept the case mouth from contacting the rim in the chamber. They plunk with the best of them now.

If you are SURE your bullets are .453" then this is the perfect time to invest in a Lee Factory Crimp Die. It will resize the bullet in the case to an acceptable diameter. It will not size it to the point that those bullets will not work in your 1911. $20 well spent for the issue you have right now.

Yes you can but you did not answer my original question which might help answer yours. Also, What OAL did you seat the bullets, what powder and how much. Just looking out for you and your gun.

Read the instructions for the die. They came with it. You can also log onto leeprecision.com and get a manual there.

The LFCD is used as the last step of reloading a round. In essence, the bullets are already done and you put a finishing touch on it, so to speak.

Make sure you read the instructions.
