There is much to read and learn about reloading and then even to begin casting bullets too. (Cast BOOLITS.com, Brian Enos.com)
A single stage press gives you something to learn the process with. I would even suggest that you seek out an NRA RELOADING CLASS & INSTRUCTOR and take his class. You can use your single stage press for load development down the road if you acquire a PROGRESSIVE PRESS also.
A Dillon 550B is a 4 stage MANUALLY INDEXED machine. (Go to Brian Enos.com) He explains a tremendous amount about Dillon machines and the proper one for YOUR amount of shooting.
A Dillon 650 and a Hornady LNL are 5 station PROGRESSIVE MACHINES and both are very good machines.
Progressive machines can turn out a bunch of ammunition.
A WARNING **** IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHOSE MIND WANDERS **** DO NOT TAKE UP RELOADING. Concentration to detail is essential to prevent injury to yourself, someone else or you firearms. You MUST FOLLOW THE RULES AND LOAD RECIPES as you are dealing with explosives. This is not the hobby to just go do your own thing. This is not the place for NO FEAR!
You will not save any money with reloading and casting but you will shoot a BUNCH MORE!
Many people find the practice of reloading to be truly peaceful and relaxing.
The choice is yours, start small and grow or go whole hog. The financial expense is yours to choose. I find some of the reloading room photos on the internet truly fascinating with their many reloading machines and accessories. There are RELOADERS that don't caliber change, they have a progressive machine set up for each caliber that they shoot a bunch of, such as 45ACP, 45LC, 9MM, 38 Special, and .223 or .556. A real sight to behold.
Good Luck with your choices. Good Shooting Too.
