Besides the reloading articles, the March/April edition of Handloader has a great article on one of Ranger Frank Hamer's exploits that was at least the equal of his efforts in the Bonnie and Clyde tale. Handloader is one of the few re-ups I try to never let slip by.

Rifle and Handloader are two of the best in magazines, if your son has not had any experience handloading the first thing should be a quality reloading manual. IMO one of the best is the Lyman Manual, but honestly Speer, Hornady, Nosler, Sierra, etc, etc. all do a great job in explaining the process.

I have all the issues of Handloader all the way back to the first in 1966. I don't plan on missing an issue. It is a great gun magazine too and actually has articles I am interested in about older guns and calibers.

Ditto the Lyman reloading manual. It is an encyclopedia of basic reloading information and instruction, in addition to the reloading charts.

If he can get on the web, maybe the thing to do is get a subscription for that. They are all available on the web for one price. It doesn't give you the "hard copy" but it does have all the same stuff in them.

Successful Hunter, Rifle and Handloader, you need no other! ;)

I completely agree Handloader Magazine is a very good read and from a good company.

He's delpoyed? No offense, but I have spent many many years deployed, and the magazines I really wanted were not about guns or ammo.....

Its obvious everyone likes Handloader, as I do. While it is called Handloader/Ammunition Reloading Journal, It always has great writing on all things gun-related. Best use of paper except for targets.

I buy handloader and rifle myself and sprung for the DVD's. They are sure great when reloading to just do a quick "fact check" on loads. I normally will do a quick search on every load I do and read up on what is out there. Lots of fun and a great reminder of little tips and tricks that I may have forgotten.

Send him a Lyman 49th manual, a Lyman pistol and revolver manual, Handloader, GUNS magazine and Handgunner magazine subscriptions.

My son is deployed in the Air Force and my best friend's son is deployed in Army SF. To quote my friend's son- "Send me anything gun related. Whatever you send gets read until the pages only have one side, then they get passed around some more. When we move, we share with whoever comes after us."

Also, a couple of years ago I went to the local VA hospital to donate and was told that they did not accept ANYTHING weapon related. I contacted USO and was told that they will send any donations along ASAP. They also have soldiers begging for reading material, if you don't have anyone in particular. VA- thumbs down. USO- big thumbs up.
Sorry for the rant. I'm just so proud of those two young men that I could bust.
