REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR

I didn’t get a chance to visit the Arizona memorial, as badly as I wanted to on my first deployment, but the ship I was on (11th Meu), was parked across the Harbor from the Missouri on our way across the Pacific in November of 2011, and on our way back to San Diego, we were parked at the pier closest to that submarine and the launch for the board to visit the Arizona memorial. My grandfather was a first generation Japanese-American, he and my great uncle both joined the Army shortly after Pearl Harbor I believe. My grandfather was stationed in Missouri and my great-uncle went to Italy with the 442nd Regiment and received a Silver Star

I was 16 years old and working by my self at a service station(you really did get service). I had a new portable radio(they were huge then, big battery) and was listening to it when the news about Pearl Harbor came out.
My Dad came from home to tell me but I had already heard. It took awhile for me to realize the gravity of the situation.
I had was sworn in to the Navy on December 7th 1942.
