I was just a kid when "Hee Haw" originally aired. I have vague memories of beautiful young "hillbilly girls" in short-shorts & halter tops :D, Minnie Pearl and her price tag hat , Buck Owens' humor, and, most vividly, Roy Clark and his musicianship. I haven't seen the show for at least 30 years.

Well, I just watched an episode of the original "The Odd Couple" on which Roy Clark made a guest appearance. Holy virtuoso, Batman! What a musician!! Thought I'd share his performance with y'all. I was floored. They don't make 'em like him anymore. Thanks, Roy.

He was the fastest picker around.
Hard to believe he grew up in Washington D.C. and was one of the first to be able to cross over and he never considered himself a country player.

Oh yeah I remember him.

R.I.P.

As a City cousin from the SF Bay area once told us "I met someone once that watched Hee-haw with the sound on". I enjoyed the music, scenery and even remember some of the jokes. It gets re-aired on RFD TV occasionally, or used to before we dropped satellite.

I met Roy Clark at the National Stearman Fly-In in Galesburg Illinois back in '89. Roy was a pilot, and owned a very nice Stearman bi-plane. He was a really nice guy. No matter how many people came up to him he was always pleasant. I had ducked into a hangar to get out of the rain (there was a lot of rain that year), and so had Roy Clark. We spoke briefly about the weather and flying. When the rain let up he went on his way, wishing me luck on getting my pilot's license. Very down to earth guy.

I have satellite and Hee Haw is on RFD-TV every Sunday at 8 PM Eastern Time. I watch it every week.

Roy and his family were from Meherrin, Virginia. His dad moved them to DC. The Clark Family Band played some goood bluegrass.

My family used to watch Hee Haw every week.

Roy got to a fair amount of pickin' but he didn't usually get to strut his stuff like that. Eddie VanHalen and Jimmy Hendricks had nothin' on ol' Roy IMO.

I do remember that he could play anything with strings. Guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, fiddle, lap steel, he played 'em all and played 'm like a master.

VERY impressive...

Love Roy Clark, saw him once in Vegas.
Another one of my favs opened for him - Gatemouth Brown.

I love Hee Haw. It was a country version of Laugh In.
I was just a little guy and I saw Stringbean & Grandpa Jones at a dancehall/radio station that was owned by my grandmothers husband in Warrenton MO.

I went to college at ASU and Grandpa Jones' brother was a professor there. He couldn't have been more different than Grandpa Jones appeared to be on TV...in fact, he wouldn't discuss his brother at all.

I love to watch Hee Haw...one of the good shows from the era of good television.

Roy Clark is still alive, BTW. He's 83.

Back in the 70's my friends would come over and I would turn on HeeHaw. They would say do we have to watch this hillbilly show. I said no you can leave. I really liked the jokes they told........of course the eye candy was nice also.
Yep Roy Clark helped take that show to the big time.
OPPS! Roy isn't dead yet.

Speaking of String bean - he and his wife were murdered in their rural Tenn home.
Their bodies were discovered by their neighbor and good friend,
Grandpa Jones.

I passed through Roy's hometown just today,( Meherrin, Va.),
headed down to Richmond, Va....... To try and buy a Smith of course !

I can understand......

Roy and Buck couldn't stand each other when not on the set.

I can understand Roy's feeling.:D I couldn't stand Buck Owens. But I will say that in his early years he was a much better musician than the style he adopted in the 60's to make money. I once heard a record of nothing but him playing the guitar and it was beautiful. He was no Roy Clark though.

Interesting to note that Hee Haw was a summer replacement for the cancelled Smother's Brother's show. Then it ran for over 20 years!

I remember being 13 years old, sitting on the sidewalk at 4 AM rolling our newpapers serenading a friend with:

"Where, Where are you tonight? Why did you leave me here all alone?"

"I searched the world over and I thought I found true love."

"You met another and SPLLT you were gone."
