Remember Roy Clark? Hee Haw!

He was the fastest picker around.
Hard to believe he grew up in Washington D.C. and was one of the first to be able to cross over and he never considered himself a country player.

Oh yeah I remember him.

I used to hang out in a beer joint in Rockville, Md. where his brother "Big" Clark liked to drink and shoot pool. You know, D.C. was just a big Southern Town in those days, Like Baltimore. Rockville was hard core Red Neck!!

One of my best Freinds I went to school with in high school, his aunt was Shara Cannon. AKA Minnie Pearl. She used to come by his house and eat lunch with us. Even shot some basketball with us!!!

Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon. She came from a very well-to-do family. My first mother-in-law was a classmate and friend of hers at Ward Belmont College, which was then a school for young ladies.

I loved Minnie Pearl's stories about her brother, Brother. She was a wonderful comedienne.

I don't know that I ever saw her out of character, but you have to remember that 'Minnie Pearl' was an ACT!

I alluded to the fact.....

The episode with him and Chet Atkins playing wad really good. He was far better than Buck Owens.

Buck Owens was a good musician but made money on selling an image and an act. He had his own ideas about what country music was and carved a niche out for himself but he was about the least of my idea of the old country musicians in my book.

I love fast picking players. In the early 60'd I went to a Carlos Montoya concert. He was considered the greatest flamenco guitarist ever.

Here is a 1959 video of him playing. Roy was awesome but this is incredible.

Look at some of the other videos if you like the guitar.

The mention of Eddy Arnold reminded me of a good story about him.
They say he was very frugal. Only bought used cars. Never new ones,
even though he was surely a multi-millionaire. He even mowed his own
lawn. The story goes that he was mowing the lawn one day. A lady
stopped and called him over to her car. She said "young man I just
live up the street a couple of blocks and my yard is about the same
size as this one...what would you charge me to do it?" He thought for
a minute and answered..."the lady who lives here lets me sleep with her."
