Remembering Pearl Harbor...

My wife and I were reading the morning Papers yesterday and I finished the Wall Street Journal without seeing one little article or mention of Pearl Harbor Day. When she finished the one she was reading I asked her also - nothing! I was super mad, disappointed and embarrassed for our Veterans both living and diseased. A COMPLETE DISGRACE IMHO!
Send them a letter. Don't let them get away with it.

I just went to their web site and emailed them a complaint about the absence. Here's a link for anyone that might want to do the same:

Pearl harbor was not mentioned in my daughter's high school U.S. History class. I doubt the teacher knew.
They covered WW2 without mentioning the attack? In my high school, we never got as far as WW2, but they should be getting to Vietnam at least by now.

I fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit Pearl Harbor and go aboard the USS Arizona as an active duty Navy Masterchief, in uniform, on my last tour of duty in my Navy career. For a sailor, Pearl Harbor is a magic place of history and reverence. The Punch Bowl ( the National Cemetery of the War in the Pacific) was heart rending.

One of the pictures you showed was of the WWII submarine "Bowfin," still in remarkable shape. Here's a pic of me with that boat in the background. A really interesting relic of the war. I was amazed at its impressive size.

John, the Bowfin is hull number 287, my Uncle Gene was on the Scamp, hull number 277. He was in Manila Bay on Pearl Harbor Day (on an earlier sub, he joined the Scamp in 1942, I believe). I have posted on other threads about his service. He perished when the Scamp was sunk in Toyko Harbor three years later.

I grew up in a Gold Star home, and assure you that we never forgot Pearl Harbor Day!!

Best Regards, Les

Here's the response I got. Sounds like a robo-response and they are treating it like a letter to the editor. Complaints like this don't get acted upon unless they get a lot of them (hint hint). My original email to them below their response.

I was told that the WSJ did not even mention the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack on 7 December. I think it is shameful not to include something commemorating the event. Please print something now, even though it is late.

Thank you,
Brian

Many have mentioned disappointment that the news/newspapers/schools, etc. failed to mention this historic day...

Please help to make sure they remember! Our local school system is usually very good about mentioning such important days - partly because I help them remember. I called my wife, an intermediate school librarian, and asked if they had mentioned the importance of the day to the students....in fact, they had missed it during morning announcements. I quickly put together some facts about the day, and the school took the time to make a special announcement to the students, along with a moment of silence.

Perhaps we can all be a little more proactive in insuring that history of this magnitude isn't allowed to be forgotten.
