I have 1000 Remington 2 1/2 large pistol primers which I was going to load into .45 ACP via my Dillon XL650. I was horrified to discover that they will not flow freely through the tube of the Dillon. They fill the pickup tube just fine but most of them will get stuck when I attempt to fill the machine. I did not seek out these primers; they came in a package deal with a bunch of other stuff and it's possible that they're old. I measured a few and they seem only .001" wider than the Winchesters and Federals that I usually use. Is this enough to cause so much trouble? I don't recall ever seeing any Remington primer restrictions with these machines.

Make sure the primer tube is clean. I push ear swabs dunked in alcohol through the primer tube every time I switch between large and small primer loading. It can get surprisingly dirty.

It runs fine with Federal, Winchester (plated and unplated), Magtech and Wolf. This Remington 2.5 is the only one that's giving me trouble. Some of these fired Remingtons look odd too, like part of the anvil wants to poke through. I guess the moral of the story is to avoid Remington primers.

I have not experienced any problems using Rem 2.5 primers in my Dillon 550. My favorite bullseye pistol load used Rem 2.5 but I have not loaded any for two years.

Dave,
It's possible that you may have a batch of Rem 2-1/2's that are a little "off spec". However, as has been mentioned, clean your primer tube real well with a patch and see if that helps. FWIW, I use Rem 2-1/2 primers in my Dillon Square Deal B with absolutely no problems.

I'd say the tube is dirty. I have never had a problem with Remington large pistol primers in either my 650 or 550.
