The rifle on the top is the WALTER RIFLE. It is REMINGTON 511 scoremaster that my grand father WALTER gave my father WALTER. He then gave it to my brother WALTER who has passed it down to my son WALTER. The gun on the bottom is another Scoremaster I bought for my other son Markham . The 511 Scoremaster was made from 1939-1962 it shoots short ,long and .22 long rifle . 5 round magazine. My dad was born in 1927, so I think this gun was one of the early ones.

Very nice. I'm a sucker for vintage bolt-action .22 Rimfire Rifles.

The first gun my brother ever owned was a 511 that my father had bought rough and used and refinished it. When it came time to do the same for me a 512 was found. Both are excellent firearms and are still in my possession.

Nice pair! I recently acquired a 511 Scoremaster made in 1948 . I added it to a 121 Fieldmaster I got at the same time. I also have a Model 12, 241 Speedmaster", 552 Speedmaster , 572 "Fieldmaster", and a Nylon 66.
The 511..

I have a 513T that I enjoy very much, not a family piece though. I do have a family piece, it is a Savage Model 7. My Grandfather bought it about 1938 and gave it to me in 1961. In 2009, I gave it to my Grandson.

I used to keep an eye out for 5 series Remington 22s at reasonable prices, fix them up shorten the barrel a bit, mount a 4x scope on them and give them to teenagers in the family. Harder and harder to find any kind of deal on them anymore

I still have one with a shortened barrel and a 541X with an after market trigger and a 12X leopold

I have a 511P with dove tail mount . Barrel is stamped P F 30 and I know I shot it back around '61 as I hunted with it or started learning to hunt !

I bought a similar one a couple years ago for my grandson. It's a 514, though, and single shot. I think I had to change the ejector & spring after we took it out for a while. It came with a scope, which he didn't like so I took it off for that day. It shoots pretty good, but about one in 15-20 shots i have to physically pry the empty shell out with a knife. It was about $90. I have no clue when it was made, but other than ejection issues now & then it's a good little shooter.

I do like the 500 series. I've had a 511x, 521-T, and still have a 513-T and a short barrel 514 "Boy's Carbine". They've all been trusty a d accurate. The 513-T is a CMP gun. I had put the order for the gun in and they ran out of them before they got to me. Some time later I received a phone call from them asking if I would still like a 513-T for the 100.00 asking price. Yes! Said I, I sure would. It arrived in like new condition with the U.S. Property stamp. Going to keep that one. These are nice quality rifles and parts are still fairly easy and inexpensive to obtain.

The 511's are fantastic rifles. I have a beauty of a lightly used 512 that I have yet to shoot, and about 5- M510's that I rescued and cleaned up one winter a few years ago.

Remington has a website that you can figure the year out. Up close where the barrel meets the receiver near the stock on the left side, you should see for instance K, KS, R, RM and or other single or 2 letter designations. Match this date code to the Remington chart and get your year. Most of these guns did not have a serial number.

Replacement butt plates are easy to come buy. NC Ordinance in North carolina makes them I believe

My late father in law gave me his 511 several years ago . He passed last year but would have been 92 this year. I felt my wife who’s an avid shooter should be the owner and she now enjoys shooting it but lets me shot it once in a while.

I looked up the SN and it’s a 1945 and from his story he received it as a birthday gift.
