Remington is apparently “ updating” their 870, offering it with 3 or 6 round detachable mag’s in six model variations. I have been using the 870 since the 60’s in various applications, will be interesting to see how the DM model is received.

Just watched a video review of the new version and it looked ok. It appears like the tube internal feed parts were removed and a mag well system was attached to the receiver. It would make sense that they would make the new system adaptable to the original tube fed receiver instead of redesigning it. Curious to see if someone comes out with a kit to retrofit this mag system to an original tube fed 870.

Not a fan of the look.
Proprietary steel mag sounds expensive.
Hope it is not plagued with the same production problems of the current crop of Remington products.
With Remington’s current financial difficulties could this be a last gasp to survive the “Trump Firearms Sales Slump”?

I too am looking forward to seeing and handling this new model. I do have a Valtro 12 ga. pump with a detachable magazine that I find to be a little unhandy. Hope the Remington is better.

Their bird's head 14" barrel gun has a DM model as well......THAT might actually be worth looking at; more rounds than the short tube

This thing may pick up points in the maneuverability department as onounceload alluded to above. For now, I'm willing to keep an open mind. I DO love my Police Magnums though.

SO THAT'S HIS FAULT TOO?

Anyone else tiring of all the worlds problems landing on his door step.

It looks uncoordinated to me,,,

My Benilli has 50% more shell capacity.

Given Remington's horrible track record these days with design and QA I'm not too excited. Heck they took an existing design in their R51 and completely botched it...several times.

I'm trying to keep an open mind on this one, but it's difficult. I'm thinking this is a last ditch attempt to keep their products in the hands of L.E., since magazine fed patrol rifles are very much the majority long gun in L.E. now. Arguments could be made such as minimal cost compared to AR's, same manual of arms (right up until it's time to reload), magazine fed just like the AR's in the car, easier to change the ammo selection on demand (slug vs buckshot)......but I don't think it's going to happen.

An auto-loader has EVERYTHING over a pump gun.

Watch the end of the movie "Cop Land",, with Sylvester Stallone.

He uses a pump shotgun,, it looks like he had never even seen a gun before that filming "take",,

We "skeet shoot" a lot in the back yard,,
everyone loves my ghost ring sight equipped auto-loader.

They like it,, because they can hit the clay targets with it.

Sure wish they would have never changed from the old standbys like the old 870, 1100, and 700 line. Decent quality and no budget plastic stuff. Real walnut and high polish bluing rules in my book!!

I was hoping the DM model would be a move to semi, rather than a pump. I think it might interesting to shoot one.
Time will tell what the market thinks..
