I see Remington has a 1911 double-stack that comes in 9mm (18), .40 (16), and .45 (15) plus 1 in each. Has anyone bought or tried out any of these yet? Under $800 and extra firepower kinda got my curiosity. I just wonder if I should buy myself a Christmas gift that won't kill my wallet? I only kill defenseless pieces of paper when I get a chance, and sounds like a nice piece of defense for home. Any thoughts? Or should I save my cash for those other people that live in my house? I don't NEED another gun, said nobody!!

Sounds like the old Para's with the double stack magazines. Steel plate shooters in my area loved them and when the assault weapons ban went into effect had stocked up on the mags. Shot a few and was impressed what with the increase of the total loaded weight. Haven't seen any advertisements. Thanks for the heads up. Won't be long before other manufacturers decide to bring their versions to the table. Frank
I have medium to large hands. A standard 1911A1 will fit, but I prefer a flat main spring housing. I have a double stack Para and it fits my hand just fine (but the factory grips are thinner than the originals).

these are made by Rock Island Armory in the Phillipines. That said, they work fine. I have one that a so-called gunsmith butchered trying to cut the slide for a Bo-Mar sight, so I replaced the slide with a close-out Para-Ordnance slide from Numrich and it fit right out of the box. Para-Ordnance magazines also work fine, just get the ones that say "made in canada", the other aftermarket (KKK?) are junk.

They're just rebranded Para Ordnance Black Ops 1911s, (Remington bought out Para a few years ago) so they're of a proven design and ought to be reliable.
If I had the money and the desire for a double-stack 1911, then I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, especially if they were made available in .38 Super or 10mm Auto.
Of the currently available chamberings, I'd go for .45 ACP since that's the cartridge the 1911 was originally chambered in and doesn't require any modifications like a ramped barrel or full chamber support to reliably/safely feed/fire ammo.
I really wish that Remington would revive the Para Ordnance LDA in a double-stack configuration, then we'd really be taking.

The 1911 I gave to my son, the one I had (ATI), was just a touch too uncomfortable with the original wood, so I bought a cheap set of white plastic ones, a little thinner, then it fit fine. My small hands may not fit in this pistol. More research! Thanks. Jeff
