Just received a new Remington 700 VLS 243 target/varmint rifle.
Good deal, and it came from old warehouse stock, but brand new in the box. I registered it for warranty a few days ago.
FWIW: The date of manufacture places it as a 2010, and it does have the smooth faced, sweet, aftermarket trigger system.

While waiting on My Leupold target scope to arrive, I received a message from Remington, instructing me to take the rifle to a certain gunshop, so they can send it to Remington for repairs, to Illion, NY.
Apparently, excessive glue was used on some of the Model 700 and 7 rifles, causing trigger malfunction issues.

Back in Sept 2014, I sent a brand new 552BDL rifle (forend screw issue), to Illion, NY, and someone destroyed the rifle with a sharp edged tool, when removing the bubble wrapping.

After a brief repair to the forend screw, Remington sent the rifle back to me in what I call "destroyed condition". It took about 4 month of calls, emails, and arm twisting to resolve the episode.
Remington finally sent another 552BDL rifle to me, but the wood grade and metal polish/blue were nowhere near the grade of my new 552 rifle which they destroyed.

The old adage; "fool me once", etc, will apply here.
I've been sick for three weeks with the virus, so I have not even had a chance to handle the new Remington 700 VLS. The Illion, NY repair shop will not be getting this rifle back, and if the trigger is a problem, I'll have either a new trigger installed, or the problem cleared at a local gunsmith.

I'm quite fond of Remington Firearms, and own a few of them, but their receiving dept is careless with customers' Remington firearms.

Before you do anything with it take a look at Triggertech triggers. I have not tried one but a friend put the cheaper model in a new 700 and is extremely happy with it.

I have been going back and forth whether to send my 1980s 700 ADL .270 back for a trigger replacement. All the recommendations I got on a Remington forum were to just buy an aftermarket trigger. I wanted someone to tell me their experience sending one back to replace the original Walker trigger. I am not looking to spend $200 on a Timney. My trigger has never given me trouble but it makes me nervous knowing my kids will inherit it someday. I think the settlement time period ends about now. OP, thanks for posting your experience with Remington CS. Doesn't sound good. Them being in bankruptcy doesn't help either. Anyone actually have a replacement trigger in theirs?

I still have an early 70s Rem 700 that was my first deer rifle. Have not shot it in 10 plus years. Think I’ll just sit on it.

It's been a long time since I've hunted, but I've never had a problem with my 700 trigger, not going to send it in. :) Of course I'm not planning on pointing at anyone else either, but I wouldn't do that no matter what trigger was in it. It's a 700C from the early 70's when you had to wait 16 weeks from the time you ordered it for a hand-lapped barrel and other touches. The recoil pad cost an extra $10.00.

The problem now is that when I sell it I'll have to find the right buyer that understands; so far that has kept it resting comfortably in the safe without being offered for sale.

I received a similar letter 5-6 years ago about my 700 in .308. I replaced the trigger with a #3 Timney and sent Rem a copy of the bill and a letter expecting a refund for the trigger. They said the recall was voluntary and no refunds would be issued. It was worth a shot...

It's like they wait to send the letter once you have your scope mounted and sighted in.

Put a Timney or a Jewel trigger in it and move on.

I have 3 Model 700's and have opted to put Timney triggers in all 3 in lieu of the Remington replacements......costs more but I prefer the Timneys and trust them more also.

Two of my 700's below in 30.06 & .243 caliber.

I had a 700 VS in 22-250 that had the "lock". I replaced with a Timmney and had no problems. The two other 700's, both Varmint rifles, had no trigger problems, especially after appropriate adjustment.

For my Benchrest rifles I like both Jewel and Big 'N' Andy triggers, but for hunting rifles, I think the Timney's take less care regarding keeping clean etc.

Man, I got kids and grandkids using my firearms. I know it is a low percentage, but I've read the horror stories, and I want no part of it. Get a replacement trigger and sleep well.

Seems that I never added a photo of the rifle, and sine I am the OP, heres a couple pics.

The scope on top the VLS is a Leupold VX-3i LRP 30mm 6.5-20x50, and it hasn't been fired yet, but the trigger has been cleared of any malfunction.

I'm keeping the VLS .243 "cherry" for My cousin's next visit to Florida. He hasn't been here in a few years, however, since all the vaccinations are current, I kind of expect a visit this coming fall-winter season, (2021-2022).

Gotta be 10 years or more (?) was out woodchuck hunting with a relatively new Rem. Mod. 7 (Predator or something like that). It has a fluted barrel in camo with a camo stock. Sitting in a hedge row with my wife; we had our rifles in our laps, pointed in opposite directions of each other. She spots a chuck for me and I jack a round into the chamber and BOOM, the gun goes off. No casualties or equipment damage thank God. Arrive home, remove trigger and throw in the garbage; order new Jewell..which is a beautiful thing. Many months (maybe years) later, I get the recall notice. So I call Remington and tell them my story of the accidental discharge with the X-Pro trigger, and ask if I can partake of the recall and get an 'extra' new trigger. The nice lady asked me where the original trigger was; I told her "I threw it in the garbage after the accidental discharge occurred". She told me that I was outta luck...have a great day :-). This Jewll trigger in my super light weight Mod. 7 is a joy for an old man to carry afield.

In the same boat as pennzy. Bought my ADL 700 new back in 1984. Newer ADL with walnut but satin finish with flared forend. On the fence myself. Never had an issue but think about it. Walker trigger I am sure. Like the wide serrated trigger but will check out others as suggested to see what options I have. Sure is a beautiful high polish blued gun from back then.
