It is a semi-jacketed hollowpoint, 125 grains and +P. It's pretty soft shooting out of my 340PD and I wondered about using it for self defense. Anyone know anything about this round? Walmart had it on sale today in the 100 round value pack.

I know there are others that are supposed to be better and wondered how this stacked up.

I pickup up these at walmart as well. Mild recoil out my my 686, compared to +P golden saber and +p hydrashoks.

In my opinion this is just for plinking and disposing of small pests. Ill keep the golden saber around for SD ammo. SG ammo has golden saber for $14 box, just ordered more.

It is probably better than 158 gr RNL, but I'm guessing it has an older design of JHP that won't expand greatly out of a short revolver barrel. Someone here has probably chronographed it and/or checked how it expands.

IMO those Remington rounds are just fine for SD. I really like that rose-pedal bullet they use, it peals back and expands very well according to every test I've seen.

If you're not sure do a test for yourself. While not completely scientific it will give you an idea if they will expand or not. Fire a few rounds into water soaked newspaper and see what you get... I have a very strong feeling you will like what you see...

I seem to recall some of the guys around here that are/were with So. Cal. agencies were using that very ammo until switching to the 135gr Gold Dot. I wouldn't feel unarmed with it.

it is what i pack in my 38. i can say a 158gr FBI load would pack more energy but i dont know if it would expand any better though.

I chrony'd it from a 4" S&W M-64 and got an average of 1101 fps, but haven't tested it in wetpack or water jugs yet........it's on the list. But I've always had good results with their HP ammo in barrels of 4" or more. The Gold Dot would be a better choice out of a shorter barrel.

My LGS is an armorer for the Ohio DOC and along with a boatload of M10's and M64's took in several cases they are selling as "police Trade" @ $14 a box.

It shoots very well out of my 2" M64. I have no doubt that properly placed, it will stop a threat to my life.

It amazes me how some people on the internet seem to think you need an artillery piece to stop a human being. Of course that round is satisfactory for SD. I saw more people shot dead with FMJ ammunition out of sub-calibers, like .380 and .32, than I can remember. Just practice with it.
