Removal of the pin in a pinned stock

I have moved from CT to NC so this is not violating any laws.

I want to make my stock adjustable since my boys enjoy shooting the rifle. What is the easiest way to remove the pin?

Go to the opposite side of the stock and drill a 1/8th inch hole. Insert a drift punch against the pin and tap it with a hammer. The pin will come out.

If the holes offend you, fill them with a little body putty and paint them black.

Thanks! The only thing about the holes that might offend me is the extra ones I drilled to try and find the pin on the other side.

Small bit, 1/64 I think. chuck it in a drill. Secure the rifle.
Can you run your drill at a speed that barely turns?

Set it on the roll pin and start the drill. As soon as it catches stop and just pull the pin out, captured on the bit.

This works real easy because both the stock and tube are plastic. It will also work on a pinned 15 with an aluminum tube, but you have to be a bit more careful.

If you are so inclined, "Marine Tex" in grey is a good color match to fill the holes.

I live in New Jersey so I really didn't do this. But, both of my rifles now have the correct LOP.

This is very dependent upon how tight the pin is in the hole. In my case, it did not work.

Get a small set of ez-outs from Home Depot or lowes. Good for removing snapped off screws/bolts. I've used them on some roll pins but it can be hit or miss.

Drilling it out is best then do like major said fill and paint.

There are no ez-outs small enough to fit into the roll pin in the stock, that I was ever able to find.

We have small sets at work that go down to .040 I've seen them in MSC catalogue. Maybe granger or tool supply would have smaller ones.

Interesting. No one here had anything smaller than 1/16th.

After 800 rounds through mine the pin just wobbled out on its own. It was almost completely out, far enough so I could adjust the stock without having to do anything else.

+1 for this. The pin got stuck on my bit and came right out. No new holes in my stock.

I just did it. did not need to secure the rifle and used a 3/32 bit. Drilled it slow until the bit got stuck then just pulled the pin right out.

Been 2 1/2 years since I posted that, and you bring it up a couple days ago - at the same time the pin was falling out of my M&P15

Later today I get to use the Marine Tex to glue it in.
On my M&P 15-22 the buttstock and tube are plastic and the recoil form the 22LR is minimal. On that rifle the pin is as solid as the day the LOP was changed.

The hole the pin is driven through on my M&P 15 has loosened a bit from use and the pin now falls out.
Probably doesn't help the armorer that did my AR used a pin that was just long enough to go through one side of the buttstock and into the tube.

Remove the bottom plate and pull the spring. Use a long straight slot screwdriver and tap the pin with a hammer. It is hollow and will form a V and fall right out. Took me all of 2 minutes...

You are confusing the pin that makes the stock non-adjustable with the pin to limit a 25-round magazine to 10 rounds.
