I have several revolvers that have been "enhanced" with paint on the front sight. What is a good solvent to remove it without damaging the blue? I have Xylene and Tulene in the shop.

Acetone works great on some paints and has never harmed bluing. I once bought a Model 60 that had been "enhanced" with gold paint in all the lettering. Hoppe No 9 and a stiff toothbrush removed it.

Acetone/fingernail polish. Xylene or Toluene probably will work well to, depends on the type of paint.

Bluing will not be damaged by any organic solvent! Caustics such as commercial paint removers are a different matter though
