I got tired of the miscellaneous factory ammo boxes that I was using, and the MTM plastic boxes, while great, take up too much space in an ammo can for medium to long-term storage. I took a flyer on repackbox.com - available on Amazon but cheaper directly from the company.

I'm well pleased. Not sure that the cardboard boxes would hold up well tossed into a range bag, but for stacking ammo into a 50 cal can, they work great. Learning curve took about 3 boxes to figure it out (the slots on the short sides need just a little force to lock up) but once done, I was easily able to get 1600 rounds loaded into a 50 cal ammo can.

I figure using the cardboard boxes for storage and the MTM/Berrys boxes for loading the range bag will be a good solution.

For comparison, the cardboard boxes are very close in size to the ZQI and Magtech 50 round boxes and smaller than Fioochi which are the skinnest boxes that are in my collection (versus the very sturdy, but space inefficient boxes from federal/blazer/speer etc)

I'm tempted to give them a try for 38 special next, but my random mix of factory boxes for 38 seems to be more standard in size so I can play ammo can tetris a little more easily.

Might be something others would be interested in so I thought I would share.

I have literally hundreds of plastic ammo boxes. Of late I have settled on quart freezer bags. I use these for pistol ammo and usually put 100 per bag. I can see what is in the bag, they are easy to store in ammo cans and I can write on the back the exact handload. Works for me and is inexpensive.

I've gone to freezer bags also, they pack easily, if needed I write on a piece of paper info and put in the bag. I also use freezer bags for empty brass. Works for me.

I bought cardboard ammo boxes from Midway USA years ago, all different sizes. Must have several hundred of them still. With reasonable care, they are reusable.

I bought some 9mm Luger cardboard ammo boxes with foam inserts from Midway .
A few friends wanted me to help them reload and all they had were zip lock bags of once fired brass and I wasn't going to give them my plastic ammo boxes .
To make the cardboard boxes more durable cover all the cardboard surfaces you can reach with a layer of clear packing tape , do a neat job and they look good and last longer to boot .
Be sure and use a heavy packing tape...it holds up better than the cheap thin tape .

Cardboard boxes are just that............

to me the important thing is, what is inside the box
that holds the ammo !!

Foam, Plastic......... ?
plus the design and ease to remove a case.

I help shelf life out, with added scotch tape.........

I've been using the plastic boxes as well, but I just ordered some of these boxes to try. Live and learn I guess is the idea.

My 9mm brass collection has grown over the years, and I don't have enough plastic boxes ATM. Total cost for 30 boxes, a plastic "quick load tray", and shipping was $31.

My first thought was my plastic cases allow cartridges to be placed nose-down, holding them so I can mark the bottom of my reloads with a Sharpee. That's helps make sure I've checked all the primers and identifies my fired cases at the range. I assume the new "quick load case" might help me do that with these boxes.

I'm not too worried about wear-and-tear in transport to the range, but I am interested to find out if loading mags from them at the range is convenient and causes no damage.

If these boxes fail the above use test, no worries. Being a more convenient size, they'll still be useful for storage of inventory beyond what my current plastic box supply can hold AND I will have learned something lol.

It'll take a fair bit of time, but eventually I'll report back.

That's a pretty cool site. Some usable stuff!

I continue to use MTM boxes. I'm not keen on repacking from cardboard to plastic just for a range trip. I'd rather stuff the boxes one time and store them. I have managed to learn that the two-part MTM boxes open themselves at the wrong time. And, the old MTMs with the formed "hinge" eventually get stiff or crack. MTM has apparently learned too because newer boxes have a real hinge.

50 cal cans chock full of ammo are about all I care to move around. Once, I had the bright idea to use 20mm cans and fill them with ammo. I soon figured out it takes a 20 year old soldier to move them. Back to 50 cal.

For empty brass, I use freezer bags and then throw the filled bags into clear-ish plastic tubs by caliber. The tubs stack on shelves in my reloading cave.

As for identification of brass or loaded ammo, I'm a labeling fool. I print labels with blanks for handwritten data and stick them to the loaded MTM boxes or stuff them in a freezer bag with empty brass.

Over the years, this scheme has proved to be the most effective - for me. YMMV.

"Heavy packing tape." That's the ticket. Joe
