Replace front sight? can I ?

Sorry for a lame question, I am old enough to ask before I get in trouble or do damage.

I have a 625pc with a Gold Dot front sight, I prefer a FO.
which one can I get to easily replace it? and can I do this my self?

Looks like its held in place by a roll pin so it should be replaceable.
No idea what sight would be a drop in replacement thou.
With the proper size punch you should be able to remove it yourself.

Looking at some aftermarket FO front sights for s&w (EGW) they dont come with a hole for the pin, you have to drill it out yourself. Might be something better off having done by a gunsmith if you have to purchase a drill bit and punch.

It isn't that difficult. Once you determine the correct sight height for your particular handgun. There is a single pin that holds the front sight in. You need a cup head pin punch. After you drift out the old sight, place the new sight in the slot and make sure it is centered and solidly down, then with the correct drill bit "by hand in a pin vice" just mark the spot where the pin must go. Then remove the sight and using your drill press drill the hole making sure it is perfectly squared up. Replace the new sight in the slot and using a tapered pin make sure the hole is lined up square. Insert the original pin and tap into place. Many advocate using some lock tite on the shank of the new sight, but it shouldn't be necessary. If you do not have the correct numbered drill bits, cup head punch's, pin vice and drill press you may want to have a gunsmith do it.

Thanks for the reminder about the same hight sight. I am almost not wanting to touch it as it is tuned in very nicely. The 627 pro or pc comes with a FO front I wonder if that will fit. Will look into it. Thanks again.

It is very difficult to replace the front sight from one model to another model. The front sight height needs to be the total height from center of the bore. Depending on the height of a rib, sub sight base, thickness of the barrel metal, etc. can change the actual height requirements of the actual blade itself. There are mathematical calculations, and most qualified gunsmith's can determine it. Often the height of the rear sight blade must be changed to bring both into correct alignment.

According to the S&W site, the 625 PC has an interchangable front sight. No need to remove the pin. The sight is held in by a spring loaded pin. There are several threads here that show how to remove and replace the sight. Here is the HiViz version of what will work: HiViz SW3000 - Front S&W Revolver Sight

I just replaced the same type of sight on a 686 Pro with a Dawson Precision. Takes about 20 seconds and no tools needed.

First post here, but I'm 99.9% positive that the front sight on the 625PC (I haven't bought one yet but I've looked it over enough at the LGS lol) is one of the interchangable DX style sights (you just pull the sight straight back towards the hammer and lift up on the muzzle side to remove it). I replaced the ones on my 627Pro and 686Pro with the SDM interchangable DX FO sights, .250" was the correct height for those guns. I also think .250" is the right height for the 625 but Im not 100% as I don't have one... yet.

Edit: Double checked on the S&W site and it lists:
Front Sight: Gold Bead
S&W Gold Bead Interchangeable

So yes very easy to change out - go with the http://www.sdmfabricating.com/Super_Sights.html - Classic/DX style, .250" in green or red per your preference (I use green).
