I just passed the five year mark (Dec ‘13) with my bi-lateral partials. At this point, I hardly ever think about them anymore. I work 50+ hours a week as a chiller mechanic with no limitations, and that’s a job that requires a lot of your knees. If they carry me through to retirement in 8 or so years, I’ll be happy. I know I’ll have to get fulls at some point, but the partials have been a Godsend.

That is great they lasted for you. I hope you get there before you need full. My dad had a partial and it only lasted 2 years and he is retired. I tried to get him to my doctors who all they do is knee injuries. Dr. Mike Kelly was the Nets and Giants Knee Doctor. He talked the Nets out of signing a free agent because of his knees. He also helped create all the new knees. They’re I believe 14 different sizes compared to years ago when there where only 2. That’s why the new knee replacements last 20 plus years.

My partial knee has a lifetime guarantee: Oxford Partial Knee Lifetime Warranty | Zimmer Biomet

For artificial knee longevity, it is important to keep your weight down.

Here’s a 40-second animation of the hardware: YouTube (Cobalt chrome and Direct Compression Molded Polyethylene, baby!)

Further, if the free-floating cushion wears out, it can be (comparatively) easily replaced with a small incision.

Yes. Definitely working on weight. I waited to long after I was told I needed a knee replacement. (8 years) so I have an 8 inch rod in my Femur and a 4 inch rod in my Tibia. 3 1/2 hour surgery. My right knee is bad but not as bad as the left. January 28th is my surgery date but I might have to postpone it a month or so as my mother in law who lives with me the last 12 years is dying and I have to pick her up put her in the wheelchair and take her to the bathroom. I would say two weeks top.

My SIL

Sis in Law got her second one day before and she was up walking the same day and went home.

Most everybody I know has done well, but this one poor dude that I knew had a hip done and he was the only person I've seen that was worse off for getting it.:(

I think I mentioned it back when you had your procedure, but mine are Oxfords also.

Had a full replacement done 11 years ago. The recovery was, um, unpleasant, especially the first week, but I've been happy as can be ever since.

I know a few guys that had minimally invasive procedures performed in Chicago over the last few years with great results. They were actually home the same day as the surgery.

Had both replaced Jan. 14 and Aug. 14. Asked Dr. how bad are they - answer - on a scale of 1-4, you are between 5 & 6. I worked out at the Y before and since, walked (with 2-3 breaks)/walk 1 1/4 miles and bike 1-2 miles, plus leg exercises. Well prepared. Drove in 3 weeks (but ready in 2 weeks). Started walking and used passive exercise machine on second day. Before, pain and could walk 1/3 of our 700 table show - after , a breeze. Had triple bypass last June and back up to 125# on bench- but I'm only 82.
Pre and Post exercise - and a positive attitude, are key.
