Have loaded Ranier 38 special 158 plater hollow points for years. They shot very accuratly and were priced well.

Rainer is now out of business. Anyone have an idia of a reasonably priced replacement for the plated hp that shoots well?

I switched from plated x-tremes to coated blue bullets and could not be happier. Easy on gun, easy clean up, affordable, large batches available, free shipping above certain amounts and way way more accurate. I use them in 10, 45, 38 and 9.

I agree with oysterer. I switched from plated to coated and will never go back. Coated are cheaper and for me as accurate if not more so. I mainly use Missouri and SNS Casting but there are a lot of good sources.

Of the 3 Big copper plated makers I've tried I prefer the Xtremes, but never in a revolver.

I can buy genuine .357 jacketed hollowpoints for 10 cents apiece. If I wanted something cheaper, I'd go with coated over plated, if for no other reason than a genuine crimping groove. And way more options.

I use Xtreme plated 38 Cal bullets.
Lead, even coated lead, is not permitted in the indoor ranges where I need to shoot. Must be plated or jacketed. Berry's are good also. I used to use Rainier's 32 Cal plated 100 gr bullets. The only other plated .32 bullets I have found are Berry's plated 71 gr round nose. They worked in my single seven, but I prefer the heavier ones. No joy now. I sure would like to be able to use coated Lead bullets, but that's not likely to happen.

Best, Rick

Accura Outdoors plated bullets

Xtreme was my go-to supplier until their quality went down, then I too switched to Rainier. Zero Bullets are great & I use them mostly now.

I've got a good stockpile of plated bullets currently but I recently had a need for some 125gr 38/357 plated bullets & the range I shoot at now carrys Accura Outdoors plated bullets (no longer stocking Xtreme).

I bought a box of (500) of their P-RNFP 125gr bullets & I'm impressed with their quality. Their website says they rate them to 1300fps. They're labelled as .357 bullets but they mic at just slightly over .358".

My "experiment" with them was to resize them to .3567" to test in a 9x19 load. The plating's luster is very good & I did a smash test on one & the plating is well bonded. Resizing them didn't even leave a scratch.

So far they've shot great & with no leading/plating issues even at near (+P) velocities in the 9x19 loads.

I haven't bought any from them on-line yet but it looks like shipping is free.

I think the high-tech powder coated bullets are putting the plated bullet manufacturers out of business. The coated bullets are cheaper to make, give ballistics nearly identical to hard cast lead, and as long as the coated process was performed correctly, will not lead the chamber or barrel.

I had some inconsistent sizing issues with Xtreme a few years back on their jacketed bullets. I have switched over to Bayou coated and Precision Delta for jacketed bullets. I gave up on plated years ago.

The Xtreme bullet making company that was 33.6 miles south of my house closed shop
and I had to go to the store and buy Berry's plated bullets.

The new style Coated bullets as mentioned is also an option but they might not
be available in a HP design with some company's.

Both styles can work or not work in your weapons for needed accuracy.
Good luck.

Might I suggest Bayou Bullet for Hi-Tek coated. I'm buying their 158 SWC and the cast weights are very consistent and the diameter is consistent. I did a write up here about their weight consistency.

Bob's Home Cast Bullets are as close to free as I can get. The biggest advantage to home cast bullets is cost: if you're making / sizing/ loading cast bullets you can't spend money some place else!
