Replacing Slide Lock Lever For Better Reset

From what I understand, newer models of M&P's have slide lock levers that have an additional hump on the right side lever, on the inside edge, which puts more lateral pressure (toward lateral center) on the trigger bar to give a more tactile/audible trigger reset.


I have a 2011 M&P45 4.5". It doesn't have any of the newer upgrades (trigger bar, sear, slide lock lever, etc).

The vague whiskey delta reset is my biggest complaint, followed by the unnecessary excess of trigger travel.

Question is- can I just obtain a newer slide lock lever and pop it into my old M&P so I can have the better reset?

Bonus questions- can I also just retrofit the other 'updated' parts like trigger bar or sear? What's different about the newer H-marked trigger bars anyway?

The slide stop assembly and trigger bar assembly are both available from S&W or Brownells. They're about $18 each, direct from the factory would be more likely to be latest & greatest version. Unfortunately, unless you're a certified armorer, you frequently have to buy "assemblies" rather than individual parts, but it does make putting things back together again much easier. To get a sear, you have to buy the sear block (assembled-our lead armorer says this is the way to go).

Now, how much benefit the parts changing is going to make is questionable-unless you've tried a new pistol with all the revised parts and liked it. Changing just one part is most unlikely to do what you want. The original intent was to have a trigger much like that of a double action revolver. With practice, your finger will learn exactly how far it needs to travel to get reset.

(Note: will it ever be as quick to reset as a tuned 1911 or 3rd generation S&W? Unlikely. But, does it really matter in the real world if your cyclic rate is 4 rounds per second or 6?)

The upgraded parts aren't available anywhere. Anyone who has them had the older versions. I've been looking for over a year now. If anyone see the new parts out there, let us know.

Keep an eye out for G&R tatical. I got my Slide release from them and yes, it made a difference.

Only thing about them is their $50 min order.

Got my slide stop, trigger bar and pc sear from G&R. You just have to keep checking.

I don't know if the 45 is different from the others, but I got a sear housing block w/sear, spring and plunger and an "H" stamped slide release with a new trigger and trigger spring from G&R Tactical a month or two back. They transform the gun. I do know that the 45 and the Shield take the same sear. The parts go in and out pretty fast -- I happened to be looking at the G&R site in the middle of the night when I found them in stock. I'd been looking for a good bit. Everything they sent me was around $65 as I remember. The real great part is that the sear block they sent was the Performance Center variety with a sear that is very close to the Apex sear in feel. G&R seems to be a very good group to deal with (no commercial -- don't even know where they are located).

Using an APEX RAM is superior to the "hump" because it also allows you to manipulate the trigger if the trigger spring fails. However a RAM can't be installed on the .45, VTAC or Shield I believe.

I got my new slide stop from G&R too. They are available, but you have to be patient. It made a difference, but still not really a great reset. It's just the nature of how the M&P trigger works. The reset will never be really loud or have a strong feel. Still, the new slide stop does make a difference.

For the .45 there is no upgrade to the trigger bar. The .45 has a longer trigger bar than the other guns so, they are not interchangeable.
