Replacment charging handles

I'm not sure why there are so many replacement charging handles on the market. What is the advantage? Has anyone actually broken the stock charging handle?

Gunfighter charging handle

I can't speak for others, but my reason for replacing the charging handle on my Windham SRC, was to accommodate easier charging with my low-mount scope installed. I chose a BCM Gunfighter - great quality and reasonable price.
