but it's not what you think. I needed a new(er) vehicle and since I don't drive as much I went looking for another 4 wheel drive. I found a 92 Chevy Suburban that the owner was selling because his wife hated it, and I mean hatred with a passion. I feel bad for the owner because he got this 92 Suburban and it was once in the Hamilton Township, New Jersey police fleet and it has 98,000 on the clock. The guy replaced the motor with another 350 V8 with one with 60,000 miles, which he gave me the paperwork and I still have some warranty on.
He serviced about everything front and back, tranny, shocks, (replaced with Ranchos), brakes, tires, rear end, new battery, a/c set up etc. It has zero creature comforts aside from air conditioning, the windows are manual, the doors the same, the radio just an AM/FM and that's it. He had just put in a brand new Uniden CB, mike and antenna, it came with a big truck vault that was in it when he got it, he also threw in brand new sidesteps in the box, and in the basement is the original push bumper that I am going to give some POR-15 and then paint. I have to wait until my brother in law comes up to hook it on because its so heavy. He took about a $3000 hit but needed it gone because he too has medical issues and his wife was threatening divorce.
I dropped off a couple things I found in it the other day that were his and he showed me the car he bought her, a top of the line loaded Crown Vic with the LX performance package (Ford's version of the Marauder) and she hated that too. I guess she would be walking if she were mine. It has been nicknamed the Beast and it actually drives and handles quite well for what it is, but it really is no bigger than an 8 foot box Chevy truck with a cap on it. I am going to have some "out of service" stickers made up for it since I already scared a couple of people with it.

I had a 79 that when it completely rotted away had an estimated 325,000 miles on it. With no 3rd seat, I had myself and 11 early teen boys in there for a paint ball trip. Mine had a 4 speed creeper transmission, but would get up to 16-17 mpg on the freeway. Yours is fantastic looking. As to the guy you bought it from; it sounds like he has a serious problem with "The Wife". A woman I worked with cried when her husband bought her a Crown Vic, after she drove it for three weeks: you couldn't pry it away from her! Ivan

David, you are a man of the badge, you know stealing is verbotten.

But business and others poor choices allow good buys. It is not something my wife would like, but when we buy her a car she picks it out.

When I buy a truck I pick it out. No problems.

I do love what you got for your money. I too would be tickled.

I bought a brand new 1979 Suburban after the 80 models came out. Got a blistering deal as the 81 models were on the way. The Chevy dealer had ordered a small fleet of these for a survey company and they did not arrive in time.

They were 3/4 ton emerald green with metal flake, 4 speed, 350 4bbl, 411 positraction, cold weather package, dual batteries and more. I got it way cheaper than wholesale. I loved it, I would have kept it forever except 5 or 6 MPG was it's best day. It was one awesome hunting, fishing camping rig. I loved it, miss it but my next 4wd truck got 15 MPG. It was like an economy car......

Hope you enjoy the new ride, It is super neat, love the 2 tone paint. :)

David: IMHO, you did very well. I really like what has been done to the Suburban to bring it back to snuff. It looks great! It will do all your utilitarian chores admirably. And, it wont hurt so bad when you beat it up a little while back in the boonies. As for the poor guy that 'had' to sell it or be divorced..........sometimes you just need to get a backbone and take them up on that threat. I did once and it was the right thing to do. .............

I had a 93 Suburban half ton 4wd. It was loaded. I'd have liked it a lot better if it was a fleet style like yours. Great truck. Cheap parts and anybody can fix them. With the old style throttle body fuel injection the mileage was consistent at 17+ and it held 46 gallons. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if it came along.

My favorite government ride was a seized '78 Ford F-250 4WD, manual hubs, 351 with 4 speed and shell camper. I claimed it for my own and refused to drive anything else right up to retirement. That and an M-14 were the only parts of the job I missed.

My excuse was that I needed it as a range truck. There was enough ammo in it to refight Gettysburg.

It had undercover plates on it, so to further disguise it, I put on a bumper sticker: "The More I Know About Women, The More I Love My Truck".

It was fun to see people's faces in the mirror when they were stopped behind me and got to reading the sticker...

Good times, good times.

NICE TRUCK. GOOD LUCK WITH IT. I WOULD THROW A CHEAP PAINT JOB ON IT TO SHAG THE COP LOOK. I LIKE THE LOOK OF JOHN DEERE (YUP--THE TRACTOR PEOPLE), BLITZ BLACK PAINT. IT'S SEMIGLOSS ENAMEL, DRIES HARD AND DURABLE, IS WEATHER RESISTANT, EASILY TOUCHED UP WITH A SPRAY CAN---AND CHEAP ! ! ! WE HOT ROD GUYS LOVE IT--GIVES THE OL' SKOOL LOOK OF BLACK PRIMER, BUT NICER. THAT TRUCK WOULD LOOK BAD***…...John Deere Blitz Black Paint TY25631 TY25642 TY25669
