So iv been debating on whether to get my IWB holster with or without a retention strap. I have the non retention strap version of my holster and have had no problems with it, the only reason I would want to retention strap would be to keep someone from coming up behind me and pulling it out. Its hidden really well, the only time I'm worried about it would be if I'm bent over or sitting. Ideas?

If someone knows that you are carrying concealed, then you are doing something wrong. This would be particularly true if a bad guy knows it.

FWIW, in some jurisdictions you could be guilty of brandishing if your concealed weapon is no longer concealed.

Retension strap?

Recently I tripped over a lawn mower while walking backwards.

My pistol grip caught part of the lawnmower handle and was pulled out to fall on the ground next to me.

Didn't expect to trip but it happened.

Something to think about.

Was concealed with a cover garment.

Good Luck

All mine are open top and never worried about it. If I was prone to seizures or cartwheels I might look at the added strap.

I use 3 different belt holsters for CC, all of the same design just for different weapons. None of them are IWB, which are less likely to lose a gun, none of them have any kind of retention device and back when I could do somersaults and such none of them ever lost a gun.

People that know me don't ease up behind me and touch me, they know better. My 11 y/o step-daughter got an almost painful lesson about that just a few days ago, she won't do it again and now knows and understands why not to do that to adults. People that don't know me are generally quick learners.

I see retention straps being more suited for an OWB holster.
What type of material is your Non-Retention holster made of? Leather? Ballistic Nylon?

Except for my 1 Remora holster (which searves double duty for Pocket carry), all my IWB holsters are Hybrid Leather/Kydex holsters. The Kydex can easily be heated and 'massaged' to enhance its retention capability. No straps needed. If you don't currently use a Hybrid, you might consider it as an alternative.

I like a retention strap on an OWB holster, maybe in part prejudiced by carrying for years in uniform. Might slow down a gun grab, and help secure a gun while messing around in the woods.

Less need in an IWB holster, though I still like a strap on a IWB when carrying a 1911. Old habits die hard.

Unless you're an LEO a retention strap on an IWB holster is not necessary. LEOs can get into a knock down fight where this might be important (been there) but not the rest of us. A good IWB will hold the gun in place with the waist band of the trousers & belt.

Gun is held in place with tension on the trigger guard.
This explains it well:
