I wish I'd have found this tool years ago. A buddy pointed it out and it's slicker than deer guts on a doorknob!

For years I've fiddled with scope mounting and getting the reticle leveled properly. I settled on a cross-test level on the action rails and a plumb bob across the shop. Still it took a lot of fiddling.

I've used this jig a few times now and it makes reticle leveling easy. Clever little invention I'd say. The assumption is that the reticle is plumb with the flat surface under the scope's adjustment turret. Nightforce claims theirs is, but I can't say for anybody else. It also assumes that the receiver holes are drilled properly and the rail mounts correctly. This thing will square up the reticle with the rail and if the rail isn't on right all bets are off. And then if you have a two-piece mount and a round receiver it won't work. These days, though, many of us are using a one-piece pic rail and this tool works fine.

It seems that lots of companies are making these, but I've been asleep at the switch. Not anymore! I hope this doesn't sound like an ad, because it's not; I have no skin in the game. I'm just pleased I found this and wanted to share it with the forum.

Seems like it should work well and certainly inexpensive enough. If you frequently mount or change scopes it looks like it would make sense to get one.

To mount scopes, I have always used two levels - one on the flat part of the scope itself and the other on the flat part of the action. That has always worked pretty well for me and it's rare I switch out scopes.

I’ve used a Segway Leveler for years. Mine is the older version without the bubble level, but you’re just leveling your crisscross with the top of the rifle or scope base.
