Thanks for all the nice comments. We went to the range today and I am very pleased with the performance of my new 617. I like the feel of the wood grips and having a K frame .22. The wife enjoyed shooting it also, but it is a little heavy for her. She prefers her model S&W 63 which is pretty hard to beat.

Congrats on your retirement. My own is not far down the road. Your collegues certainly gave a nice parting gift and something that will hold good memories. Enjoy your new freedom.

I retired last month after 33 years at the road dept. and my coworkers gave me a gift cert. to a local gun store. I Bought a S&W 617 with a 4 inch barrel, then added a new set of Ahrends grips.
My wife and I are going to the range tomorrow.

We should start a group for retired road/highway folks. I did it last year after 32 years with Indiana DOT. My one year anniversary was April 16th!!
