Just received my FS M&P 9 back from customer service. Took just a month from contact by phone with them for return authorization, shipping to them and return.
I bought it new two months ago at a local gun store and fired it three times to test all components. It was functionally perfect, but with a lousy, gritty, hitchey, heavy trigger and eh accuracy, probably due in large part to heavy trigger manipulation.
I asked for a replacement rear sight as one of the white dots was incomplete. Replaced.
I also asked them to reduce the heavy trigger pull to their claimed spec of 6.5 pounds. They did by adjusting the trigger bar. However, there is still an unwelcome hitch as the bar engages the striker block, and the average pull weight is 6.4#, that's an average for 10 pulls using a Lyman digital trigger pull. The high was 7#, the low 5.5 lbs. Very inconsistent. The trigger feels better, even a little smoother, but it's not yet what I would call a good trigger. I had hoped to get a smooth trigger at consistently 6.5# or less. I guess I expected too much. While this didn't cost me anything out-of-pocket, it was a waste of time for the small improvement.
I just ordered the Apex Polymer FSS kit. I'm sure that will take care of it as the Apex parts for my Shield did. It's what I should have done at first.
Too bad S&W can't just do it right. Harder to test accuracy with a crappy trigger, but I'm going to try again tomorrow.
Yes, I am a trigger snob. The go switch for me needs to be consistent, fast, reliable, and something I don't need to fight, struggle with or think about, even with slow aimed fire. If I can't get a trigger to be what I want it to be, I move on to another gun. I've been able to tune Keltec, Kahr and Beretta triggers to be excellent, as well as significant improvements (Thanks Apex) to a lousy Shield trigger. I am sure this M&P will turn out fine after installing the FSS.
