The back story: Several years ago I sent Kim the outline of my hand so he could custom make his finger groove targets for me. I was able to pick out just the right darkness of his wood for my purpose. Of course, I always sprung for the optional tung oil finish. Then in a moment of stupidity years ago I sold several sets that he had made. Tiger maple, extra dark rosewood (shown), dark cocobolo, and ebony (also shown).
Fast forward to this Saturday. I went for a visit with some friends just to get out of the house and while sitting around in my buddies man cave he produced some Kim Ahrends stocks. Seems that the one fellow who bought them from me had sold them to the other guy. He had no idea the one set was ebony, as most people think of ebony as black wood. My good buddy felt sorry for me and sold them back to me. He said "You probably want to be buried with those."
