I know this is not much to go on but it's all I have sense I haven't seen it.

A guy at work said he has a model 64 SS 357, 6 shot revolver with a 3" barrel for sale ( pre lock ).

I know it's not a 64, sense he said that it has 357 on the barrel. Or did it also come in 357?

My guess it would be a 65 or a 66. What do you think it could be from my vague description. He is asking $495 for it, but I would like to know what model I am buying for that price.

First thing to remember, never say never with S&W. Second thing is "BUY IT", it could be factory or upgrade someone done or a 65 or 66. "BUY IT" if it looks to be in good shape.

Thanks, for the help. I thought that it would have the model number on it somewhere like my Smith's. The guy selling it knows less than me and thats not saying much.

Buy it.

It could be rare like the M10 production that was made in 357mag. It could also be a M64 that had the factory 4 inch barrel replaced with a 3 inch.

If it is in good shape buy it.You can check for the model designation by swinging the cylinder out. When my pre lock 640's barrel blew up Smith replaced it with a new 640 but I want to cry seeing that lock there....Enjoy Mike

s&w 64

i had a s&w marked model 64 but the gun was chambered for 357 and marked on the barrel as a 357 by the factory.

A M13 is a blued gun. I gave $400 for a 13-3 LNIB and considered it a very good deal.
Edit: Could be nickle, then it would be a pretty good deal.
Welcome to the forum and good luck.
