Revolver Holster for USPSA

In an effort to expand my participation in competitive shooting with a revolver, I want to start shooting USPSA. I currently shoot one USPSA (with a semi-auto) match and two IDPA matches per month. I would like to make a dedicated rig for USPSA and am considering a "race" holster. For IDPA I shoot both a model 646 and also a 625PC. The 646 is more of a back-up gun as the 625PC is currently getting the full treatment - but I would like one holster that would fit both guns, without a lot of retrofitting of expensive parts.

The AA Racemaster is expensive to begin with and then requires a $45 block to be able to switch guns.

The AA Racer is firearm specific, but I could actually buy two of these for less than the Racemaster with the extra block.

The CR Speed looks like it would work and is definitiely one worth serious consideration.

The most serious contender is the Amadini Ultimate Ghost. It seems that the switch from one gun to the other would be accomplished with just the adjustment of the crane support screws and adjusting the ball that protrudes into the trigger guard. Also the least money @ $150.

Interested to hear other's additions and/or feedback, or if I have something incorrect in my assessments. Thanks for your help.

I've been using a CR Speed I bought many yrs ago for my 625. It will adjust to fit my K frames. Haven't tried it with an L, I don't have one.

I just got a AA Racer for my K frames, same holster fits K & L. I REALLY like it. Had to do some minor fitting to the block (needle file type fitting). Locks the gun in very securely when latched, retains well when not latched and gives a great draw.

I'm going to get another for my 625. Want a used CR Speed?

Which is better $45 for a second block or $100 starting for second holster? I ordered mine with the nframe insert but in the future I have the option of converting to a second gun type. It's an awesome holster, and locks up solid.

I thought about that. AA Racers for revo, 2 x $129 or a Race Master for $213 and a second revolver insert for $57.

I'm going with 2 Racers and an extra belt. I can have a belt set up for my 625 with full moons and a second belt set-up for my K frames with speedloaders. No screwing around changing (and adjusting) inserts and fullmoon or speedloader holders.

Could continue to use the CR Speed for my 625 but the AA Racer is alot nicer.

I faced similar quandary when starting to shoot such as ICORE and Steel challenge more than my beloved CAS style.

Personally I've grown weary of ever more equipment that does little other than add cost. After questioning of the various Match Directors, I came up with MY plan:

I had a local leathersmith craft me a plain and simple leather holster for N-frame, which I can use in a variety of sports.

Not only do I like it's actual utilitarian value, which can be used afield anywhere I go, it fits *any* N-frame I might want to use.

As a geezer-participant, whatever microsecond advantage might be wrested from an actual 'competition' grade rig, I'd simply feel awkward and way out of place with one of them variations you mention.

I got a marvelous hand-built belt AND holster, compliant with the various match regulations, for a mere $60, a real deal IMHO.

It's open toe, and I've packed every length barrel you'd find on an N-frame. Granted I don't use an 8 3/8" 629 in competition too often, but can carry such if need be. The 3 7/8" 610 fits very well too, and I do use it at lot.

Haven't tried the USPSA/IDPA etc you mention.

Being another Geezer, I would probably shake the dust off my old Cup Challenge and make do.

The CR speed holster is certainly more cost effective than the Racemaster, if cost is a primary consideration. You could also consider getting a Blade-Tech or Comp-Tac Kydex belt holster for the 625 and a second for the 646, since they are different frame sizes.

I would just buy a kydex full body holster for USPSA revolver. I have been getting my *** kicked for years by people wearing a plain jane holster while I pranced around in my CR/Limcat you name it bikini holster. A friend of mine borrowed my back up 002 once during a match and had the match of his life. A tenth off the draw doesn't really count for much at a USPSA match and the security of the full body holster makes up for it.
