Looking for quality snap caps for 9mm and 38/357 revolvers. There are numerous snap cap designs to choose from and looking for one that will last.

All the ones I've seen don't last very long if used a lot. Get a 5/16 or 8mm OD rubber O ring and put it over the firing pin on the outside of the frame so it's around the firing pin and under the hammer. O rings are dirt cheap, and last a long time. One O ring fits all the K,L, and N frames and all calibers. The O ring also protects the firing pin and spring from repeated bashing of the hammer. The snap caps do not.

AZoom brand is the only way to go. Buy them once and you are all set. I’ve been using for years. They are made out of aluminum and available in most common pistol and rifle calibers. The 12 gauge ones seem to take the most beating and they still work fine. The plastic ones on the market don’t hold up. The rims break off especially cycling in semi auto firearms. Cost seems to have gone up from what I see but still worth it.

I get mine from a guy on ebay named 82ndparachuterigger. Or something like that. They’re actually dummy rounds using Starline brass, and coated bullets, with the primer pockets filled with a silicone/rubber material. Weight is very close to the real thing and the bullet/primers are brightly colored for quick identification. I think they’re 10 bucks or so for six.

I’ve never worn one out.

Edited to add: apparently he’s changed his name to All American Snap Caps.

I have A-Zoom and Pachmajier and some orange solid cast plastic ones. They have all lasted well.

Depending on what parts of the firing process you are practicing, fired cases are good at 20 times of pounding the spent primer.

I have a clear plastic 24 compartment index I keep my snap caps in. I have over 20 cartridges, and some as many as 12 caps. The hardest use I ever saw on my caps was for Fail-to-fire drills. Placing a random dud in a full auto clip of 9mm. That 36-ounce bolt slamming into that snap cap took its tole. They usually died around 10 uses.

ebay seller gregerdave or something like that sells great snap caps. Brass casings, lead bullets, no powder obviously with a rubber insert for a primer.

His snap caps last longer than anything AZoom makes.
