I hear a lot of anti-gun talk about citizens owning "military guns." I propose we agree that we should not be allowed to own "military guns", and agree that we should only be allowed to own guns like those used by civilian law enforcement.
It seems to me that the Second Amendment should certainly be interpreted to, at a minimum, allow citizens the same type of firearms that our police use.
I am willing to compromise this way, aren't you?
I am partially joking, but also partially serious. Full-auto guns will always be restricted, but in my jurisdiction AR-15s are common in patrol cars, at least in the suburbs and rural areas, and clearly LEO's carry "high capacity" magazines in handguns.
Maybe we need to shift the arguments a bit from that "military weapon" BS we often get drawn into, and point out that we are entitled by the Constitution to have Personal Defense Weapons and should be able to own what some Deputy Sheriff in rural mid-America can own.
Since ICE has become a para-military operation I would avoid using them as a comparator.
