I have twins. My daughter is here in Columbus with her mother and my son is at school in Anderson, IN. Next week is their b-day so we are going to meet my son in Richmond (about halfway from each direction) for dinner.

Now we've driven through Richmond a million times on our way to Anderson or Indy but have never stayed too far from 70. Can anyone recommend some good restaurants in Richmond? Maybe something that isn't a chain?

Thank you.

I can't think of the name, but in downtown Richmond there is an excellent restaurant. If I remember correctly, it shares a parking lot with a church. The lot and the church are across the street. Went there on our way out east a year ago. Great food and great atmosphere. (i would have said ambiance, but I didn't want to risk my man card.)

Man, 25 years ago the big deal was the Welliver's buffet over in nearby Hagerstown. :)

Of course, 25 years ago quantity meant a whole lot more to me than quality. cheers, erich

My son has a thing on his compuer called 'Yelp'. It gives a list of reataurants in any particular location, and if you look at one, i will tell you how expensive, how good, and will often have a menu. He's got it on his cell phone (it's probably a lot more than a cell phone, it also has GPS, e-mail, etc. ). I don't want it, I'd probably forget how to use most of what's on it.

I have lived in Richmond for the past 4 years. I can think of three places that you won't regret going to:
1. Galo's- it's Italian and it's great. Service is incredible and it has a great atmosphere.
2. Old Richmond Inn. Traditional food and it's great.
3. Yamato Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi. If you are into sushi this place is great. I never considered sushi until my fiancé wanted to go there and it was pretty darn good.

By the way Galo's and The Old Richmond Inn are owned by the same family so you won't go wrong with either choice. Hope this helps.

Well the votes are in and Galo's Italian Grill receives thumbs up all around for our birthday dinner last night. My son had veal, daughter ravioli and the ex and I both had lasagna. Stuffed mushroom appetizer was very good. Free deserts for the birthday girl and boy with a crème brulee. Service was exemplary.

If you are passing through Richmond and need a nice break, you can't go wrong. Very easy to get to-less than 3 minutes off of I-70.
