I am lucky enough to have just bought a brand new Model 41 Performance Center Pistol. I cleaned it initially and did not notice anything but today I shot 80 CCI standard velocity rounds. All went well with no FTE, etc. When I brought it home I cleaned it again. This time I noticed a ring around the inside of the barrel about 3/4 inch from the breech. It looks like a machining mark where maybe they do something like taper that end of the barrel. However it is significant enough I can feel it with a wooden toothpick. Is this normal for the model 41 Performance Center barrel?

It is just where the rifling starts. It is very near the nose of the bullet. I didn't see it initially but after firing it became pretty obvious. I cleaned it pretty well and tried the wire brush twice but didn't want to over do that. But it is rough enough you can feel it if you lightly rub a wooden tooth pick over it. I was concerned this could effect the accuracy.

I'm going to guess lead (or copper) deposits. I'd soak it with an appropriate solvent and then reinspect. I've had instances where I swore they were more than just fouling but patience prevailed and it finally came out.

A new gun . Send it back . Model 41 barrels & extractors have always been luck of the draw . My 5 1/2" HB started keyholing @ 50yds . Had Alex Hamilton of Ten Ring Precision reline it . It now shoots better than the factory barrel when it was new .
