Members of my family have fought in most of our nation's wars. To the best of my knowledge, all of them survived.
But I did lose a brother Marine-Bill Winter. Bill was often referred to by those of us that knew him as a "star" in the Corps. He enjoyed OCS, attended Ranger school and had commanded the Marines assigned to the London embassy. He had just been selected for promotion to major. He had the potential to wear four stars.
Unfortunately, he was killed in the Beirut barracks bombing in 1983.
He was a great Marine and a wonderful husband and father. Bill will never be forgotten.
