RIP Captain Scarlet

The Gerry Anderson fans will know what I'm on about. Captain Scarlet was a sci-fi puppet show that followed Thunderbirds. The actor Francis Matthews gave the character his voice back in the late 60s. He was also a stalwart of British film and TV. He passed this weekend at 86.

I'm sorry he's gone, Steve--sounds like a pretty versatile guy--but I never heard of Captain Scarlet.

I vaguely remember this show. I was born in 1962. My dad was in the Navy so we moved a lot so I can't remember if I saw this show in Spain or in the US. It wasn't on very long and I couldn't remember the name until I looked at the link. I remember watching it but I never saw that many shows. I think I saw the show in 69 maybe? Not sure.

32 episodes were made '67-'68 according to Wikipedia. I thought it was more, but 32 is still a lot to a kid.

I missed that one too. I discovered it on line recently, and I have to say that it was fairly "grown-up" for one of the Anderson puppet shows. Almost like a serious prime-time drama. Fireball XL-5 is still this old space cadet's favorite though!

Steve, you are right about that but my problem was that we moved so much back then that the tv programming was always different.

Also "Captain Scarlett" was a swordsman in the wars between France and England movie played by Richard Greene

Stingray was another Supermarionation program though I always think of it as Aquamarina.
