We had to put our Labrador Retriever down today. If you've never been through it, you're not missing anything.

I bought her at a gun show. Katie was a great family dog, an enthusiastic hunter and a loyal companion. We were lucky to have her for 14-½ years, but it was nowhere near long enough. Goodbye dear friend.

So sorry for your loss. While all pets are cherished members of our families, there is something special about a gun dog. From the shivering hours in the blind waiting for ducks, to the trampling through fields and thickets for pheasant or grouse, they earn a spot close to our hearts, indeed. I am sure she has provided you with a lifetime of memories, as you provided her the opportunity to serve you in the field - her greatest passion of all.

Know How You Feel

From one dog lover to another. I know how you feel. They ask little and give all.

I could not say it better. I am sorry for the loss of your friend.

I Stood By Your Bed Last Night

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew, in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

You have my condolensces, Been down the same path several times. Most recently in March. Go out and get another canine buddy ASAP. For us it's the only thing that seems to help with the grief.

Sorry about your loss. I have two Labs, my male is 10 and not really getting around to good but he never fails to run by and bump my hand with his nose when I get home. I don't look forward to the day he is no longer with me.
Peace,
gordon

I went through what you just did a couple of weeks ago. It hurt like hell, but the support of our friends here on this forum carried me through the rough part.

I hope our wishes for you help you as they did me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Three weeks ago today we put down my little buddy Max so I know just what you're going through. The bond between a man and his dog can be so strong and bring such joy, that's what you will remember when the initial shock fades. When Iggy lost Heather I posted "one day the memories will bring a smile instead of a tear", may the same hold true for you...

I am sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is losing a family member. Prayers for you and your family to get through this.

My condolences on your loss. I can tell you felt deeply about the loss of this member of your family. Truly, they are our children. Blessings on you!

sorry for your lost i am faceing having to put my boston terrier down any day. i get up every morning to see my dog hopeing to see him like he was before age set in. he not in any pain so the vet said i would have to be the one to say when the time comes. i really hope he will go in peace while he is sleeping during the night.

I offer my sincerest condolences. It’s always hard to lose a friend and I know how much it hurts. I lost my hunting buddy last year, an Irish Setter named Cindy. She just got old(13) and sick and there was nothing I could do for her but hug her, tell her I love her and let her go.

I hate that for you and your family. God Bless.

Unfortunately I have been there twice before and fear I have another coming around soon.

Ike - a 16 1/2 yr old Brittany Spaniel
Murphy - a 16 yr old Black Lab

Sunny - my now 17 year old Golden Retriever.

She is still kicking strong for her age but I know it can't be long. I hope to find her curled up still snug in her bed when the time comes.

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
