Also a fan.
I liked Good Old Boys.
The last movie I saw him in was Mud.
A so-so flick with some big names.
Sam played an Arkansas Hillbilly who only shot folks who needed shooting!
What kind of rifle is that?
Sporterized Enfield? Mod 70?

He was an outstandingly talented Pulitzer Prize winning playwright and actor. Seventy-three isn't really that old, but sadly, there's no escape from ALS. It's a hard way to go.

The last good film I saw him in was The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. He played Frank James in a way that made you think that was probably what the real Frank James was like. Hard to believe that film came out ten years ago.

I hope he Rests In Peace.

BTW, wasnt he the General on:Black Hawk Down? Its been awhile since I last saw it.

One of those great, unpretentious actors who could play every kind of character convincingly: good guys, bad guys, tough guys, despicable guys, didn't matter. Just coincidentally a few months ago I came across "Thunderheart" again, where he played a corrupt FBI agent against Val Kilmer and Graham Greene. And while I'm not much into theater, he apparently was quite respected as a playwright.
