RIP thriller writer Jack Higgins

Most obituaries will likely use the term "prolific" to describe this solid craftsman of a storywriter.

I first met Mr. Higgins through "The Eagle Has Landed" like most people, and particularly his WW II-themed thrillers, together with those of Alistair Maclean, became a big part of my unofficial program of "learning English by devouring potboilers involving Nazis" in the 1970s. ;)

R.I.P.

Henry Patterson, AKA Jack Higgins has passed. He wrote a lot of stuff that kept me entertained in airport lounges or when I was broke and stayed home reading a book. Probably his most famous book is "The Eagle has Landed".

Like Steve, I did the same thing in a variety of airport lounges around the world whilst Uncle Sam had me running around the Pacific and North Africa between 1993 and 2014 for NIH. Many a paperback left for the next person, though since travel was for Uncle Sam, no lounges, only hard seats in the "peasant / other" areas of an airport. Dave_n

Yeah, maybe "airport lounge" was a bit kind to many of the places I had to sit.

One of my favorite authors to read, No more Sean Dillon I cannot help but picture Donald Sutherland walking through the English countryside care free and smiling while playing with the dogs when reading of Sean Dillon. All of Higgin's books were good reads and I other than eagle I particularly liked Valhalla Exchange , Cold Harbor, Angel of Death and Season in Hell. His paperbacks were pretty good too. I have about 40 hardback Higgins novels and a pile of paperbacks. I guess that I am caught up now.

RIP and thanks for the great stories.
