Interesting article I read in Gun Tests regarding out of battery firing in 22 LR's
Can someone test their rifle and verify that the information is correct about the 15-22? If anyone does this could you please include the first four digits of their rifle's serial number, and whether or not the rifle has had problems with oob's, and if it was returned to S&W for service? Also, as someone else asked in the "double tap" thread, has any work been done to the trigger? This information will be very helpful to me and everyone else on the forum.
One other thing...and someone else mentioned this, it is important-to me anyway-as to why a round is not being fully chambered by the bolt. We all know that cleaning needs to be done from time to time or else the crud build up may cause chambering issues, however something occurred to me while pondering this problem. I think I saw that the 15-22 uses a T/C match barrel. Years ago when I was heavy into NRA handgun silhouette shooting, the T/C contender was the handgun of choice with most of us. T/C offered a barrel that had a "match" chamber, in other words close tolerances. I do recall that the chamber was so snug that some ammo would give hard chambering, you could feel it as the action was closed, but the single shot contender had some pretty heavy caming force and I do not remember anyone getting a round stuck. We did find that some ammo worked much better, but it has been around 20 years ago and my memory is a bit fuzzy.
What I am wondering about now is that just maybe the 15-22 has a match chamber, this would be great for accuracy, but would also be easier to foul to the point that the bolt spring might not fully chamber the round. I am throwing this out as food for thought, I do think it is worth consideration though.
