Robert Osborne Has Passed Away

I think Mankowicz would do an excellent job, I enjoy his commentary and he seems genuinely likeable.

Ben Mankiewicz does an okay job, but for me, he hasn't developed that rapport with his unseen audience yet. He talks just a tad too fast and a tad too loud for me. He doesn't exhibit the reverence (for lack of a better term) for the genuine classics that Robert Osborne had.

He is related to "old Hollywood", though. He's Herman Mankiewicz's grandson and Joe Mankiewicz's great-nephew. Both of those guys were major movers and shakers in Hollywood.

I liked listening to Robert Osborne usually as much as the movie. RIP, sir. I suppose they will replace him with Paris Hilton.

Robert Osborne is the reason I began to watch the old classics, he was an impeccable host. TCM is the only thing I miss about not having satellite (no cable where I live). Mr. Osborne was a class act. Very knowledgeable and as someone above said made it appear as though he were addressing each viewer individually. He will be missed. RIP Mr. Osborne.

I gor raised on classics shown on local tv well before cable came to town. However, I did enjoy Robert Osbourne's commentary--which helped make me a fan of TCM. Rest in Peace Robert.

BTW--apparently Mr. Osbourne was also an actor--saw part of a blurb on TCM about that. I had not known........................

I saw that too. He was in a movie with Lucille Ball. She suggested that he might want to go back to writing about movies in preference to acting in them.

Still, he got to act in a movie... with Lucille Ball.

There you go. That hits the proverbial nail right on the top of it's shiny little head. Very well said.
