Just watched this movie today with the family. I waited seeing it, as it really didn't interest me, and Russell Crowe is hit or miss with some of his movies. Then I read they were doing an adaptation, of the story didn't help either. However, after seeing it, it was quite good. Having never read the original version, (there must be one right), found it entertaining.

Real Version: People will try to tell you that Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Don't believe it. He stole from the government and gave to the poor. Back in those days, the only rich people were the government or worked for the government .

Errol Flynn WAS Robin Hood. Every movie since then has been a poor imitation.

I enjoyed Ridley Scott's version with Russell Crowe very much. Much more believable than guys in tights and silly hats.

I loved the Russell Crowe version. Developed the legend from it's origin and the characters were superbly treacherous or honorable, and some just wishy washy. Great battle scenes. Loved the French commander's retreat. Much better than the tights and silly hat version.

Real Robin Hood? Richard Green.....the one I grew up with.

I've seen and liked the Russell Crowe version and think there will be a sequel. Remember, in the movie he was not yet the Robin Hood we all know.

Off course I grew up watching Richard Greene as Robin Hood in the TV series, plus I had the hots for Maid Marian:cool:

I saw it, thought it an unworthy successor to Errol Flynn's version.

It seemed that neither Crowe nor Blanchette really wanted to be there.

But, like so many others, I grew up with Richard Greene's Robin Hood.

What ? No love for the Costner version ?:D

I'm with Mel . . . "Men In Tights" gets my vote - I love Mel Brooks.

I think Russell Crowe is great. If I played for the other team I'd be stalking him. The guy can't make a bad movie. I expected the Crowe version of Robin Hood be yet another remake. But noooooo, the story goes off on an interesting tangent. I'll probably watch the movie again tonight. The end of said movie left you feeling like there could be a sequel. That possibility will depend on the money made from the first. After all movies are not about entertainment, it's about the dollars.

Actually, the tales of Robin Hood date from about the 11th Century. There were illustrated (by Howard Pyle) books about Robin and Marian before the Errol Flynn movie, although it was very good.

As a boy, I enjoyed the Richard Greene TV series, but i haven't seen the later movies. Russell Crowe comes across as a little too common to play the Earl of Locksley. I think that was Robin's title.

When Flynn shouted: "Welcome to Sherwood, milady!"; he claimed that role as effectively as Connery did his with: "Bond, James Bond."

It's different today ? Now they they steal with laws that are made to make honest people into criminals.

Crowe seems to be from a group of real actors that play the part, not themselves...Dinero, Pacino etc. They really don't care how they look and just play the part...He was great in the Gladiator, yet he played the mind stricken genius in "''forget the title..however he pulled it off...A good actor, but what I hear a sort of butthole to deal with....Good actor no mater his personality..The remake of "3;10 to Yuma left a little to be desired, but not his fault....Classics like 3:10 to Yuma are hard to remake successfully...Look at the remake of "Day of The Jackal" it was horrible, considering the original with Edward Fox was almost a primer for obtaining a fictitious identity and moving across borders. We seem to have celebrities instead of actors these days.

I liked this new movie, although not quite as much as Costner's.

I loved "Men in Tights". I'm surprised no one has mentioned a short lived TV series by Mel called "When Things Were Rotten"!
