Robins

Robins like water, so they like my yard because I have a couple of birdbaths. Some years it looks like O'Hare in terms of air traffic with different families have more than one brood. Anyway, right now I seem to have one mature male and his mate and one old looking bird who has been here for years. I recognize him by his hooked beak and deformed feet. The foot problem seems common around here.

I suppose the first of this year's youngsters will appear soon. This always brings bittersweet memories as my wife and father always loved seeing the new babies too. Better post pictures before the keyboard gets too blurry.

Last year we had a real robin problem in our front yard.

Several of the little guys would get aggressive and ATTACK their reflections in our living room windows... starting every morning at sunrise.

This was cute the first couple of days but got old very quickly. We tried a number of things to keep them away from the window but nothing really worked. This continued until they migrated out of the area later in the year.

So far this year, non of the robins that are here a pulling the same crazy stunts.

You can have mine!!

This year I swear they are Robin X Pigeon crosses. Roosting and pooping all over everything. And we are talking a lot of poop from a relatively little bird. So far my "adverse conditioning" has been rodent glue traps taped to the most active roost. It seems a temporary measure. I will next not tape the glue trap so firmly in place and let them try and fly off with that attached to their little feets. I won't shoot them but I doubt they will fly far and between the 'coons, cats , and possums, Mother Nature will clean up the loose ends. The Mockingbird only leave a little drop or two on the mailbox, but these Robins .. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Robins are great birds - my wife volunteered at a bird rescue for many years and tended baby robins from time to time - she always said that they were (unlike many birds) very docile and trusting.
