I recently received two new products to test, both of which are made for the S&W J-frame revolver. When I installed them, it made my Model 442 look like the perfect backup gun for Robo-Cop. Don't let the looks fool you, these new gadgets are functional and enhance the performance of my Model 442. The rubber grips are Ergo Delta grips and though they look "weird" they are made to fit the shooter and they really tame recoil and muzzle flip, plus cure what I call "Cylinder Latch Thumb." On the front of the frame is the LaserMax CenterFire laser sight for the J-frame. It attaches at the forward portion of the trigger guard and at the ejection rod lug beneath the barrel. You can get a red or green laser and it's easy to install and sight in. I like laser sights for small handguns with their inherent short sighting radius and the glowing "dot" lets you better ID your target and it has significant intimidation factor. Next week I'll get it out to the range and we'll see if it works as it should when shooting. One note, the sight I had did not fit an older 80's era J-frame. THe sight and grips also enhance this gun as a "pocket pistol" making it easier to slip in and out of a trouser pocket.

Very interesting. Does it slide into a pocket any better or worse with the modifications?

Can I assume the switch to turn on the laser is along the side of the lower rear portion of the LaserMax (near the front of the trigger guard area)?

Thanks,

I have fired the M-442 with the Ergo grips and no there was no effect on the angle of my trigger finger. I have a medium-sized hand, so those with a bigger hand or longer fingers may not find this to be the case. The rounded shape of the laser sight make pocketing the gun easier. The rubber Ergo grips are somewhat "tacky", but with my hand on the grip as I withdraw the gun from the pocket there is no ill effect on the draw. I like to wear cargo pants and shorts when I pocket carry as the pockets are bigger and the outer flap pocket helps to hide the outline of the gun. The modified J-frame fits fine in my Mika Pocket Holster too.

The combination of the Ergo grip and the laser max make the little j frame look like a completely different gun.

If you traced it's outline, and showed it to a 100 people I bet none would even realize it was even a gun.

That's probably true. No worries about printing in a pocket holster then.
