Rock Island 1911

I do like my 45acp 1911s. I have been about half way looking for a 1911 in 9mm for some time. Found a Rock Island for what I considered a decent price and thought why not. Knowing they are considered a bit of a budget gun I was a little leary at first. Took it to the range today, first magazine stovepiped every other round. Took the extractor out, did a little fine tuning on it and fired 150 of my reloads without a hitch. Just wanted to post and let folks know if these guns are tuned right they run like a champ. Don't be afraid to jump on one of these, good price and they do shoot! Previous owner said he had put around 5000 rounds through it so it was time for a little TLC.

I have an ATI 45acp government full size and love it. Made in the Philipeens (sp). And, GI issue/clone parts fit.

9mm in a Rock Island is hard to beat for the money. As always, take the money and buy some
more 9mm. BTW great prices out there, .18 per round ain't bad.

I have a RIA 2011 .40 that I shoot in USPSA competition on a regular basis. I have had 0 issues with it.

I've owned several Armscorp guns (Rocks and Citadels) and they were good guns. Not so much for pretty, but I've owned a few 1911s that were a lot prettier and cost a lot more, and didn't come close to being as good functionally. Congratulations on your new gun!

I've been considering a Rock Island 1911 to supplement my old Norinco 1911- which is also a very reliable pistol. Good to know Rock Islands are reliable and good shooters. I'll take reliable over pretty.

My son has a RIA in 9mm since about five years and is well pleased with it. His had an issue and he returned it to the factory, where it was properly fixed with a fast turn around, it works well and shoots accurately for thousands of rounds now.

I haven't owned a RIA 1911, but know plenty of people who do and they are well pleased with them. My niece's husband called me wanting a recommendation on a reasonably priced 1911 for their son for Christmas. I told him RIA, can't go wrong.
3 times I've picked up a RIA double stack 1911 and talked myself out of it. One of these days...

RIA 1911 in .38 Super. Works good: accurate and reliable, pretty much what you want in a 1911. I only changed two things on mine. I put a set of GI grips and a GI mainspring housing with a lanyard loop on it.

I looked into those in 45 for my first 1911, and ended up going with a Auto Ordnance mainly because I live in Massachusetts and they were more available, and they are made in Worcester Mass, so I like buying stuff made here if it's quality. Also, Kahr arms tunes all of Auto Ordnance 1911's (and maybe the Thompsons too?) so it has an amazing fit. I have put only about 100rds through mine, and had zero issues. I would have liked to get a 9mm 1911, and I may still someday, but the first had to be a 45.





I wish I could EDC this thing, but I have to wear really long coat to conceal it, and it's heavy. I am not gonna attempt to wear this IWB lol

A .38 Super really intrigues me. But it is another caliber to reload. How different is it from a .40? Bob

I’ve got the double stack commander size in 9mm and .22tcm. It’s a blast to shoot the .22tcm, but you burn through ammo quickly, so it’s a bit expensive. Haven’t had any desire to shoot 9 out of it yet. I traded a Ruger LC9+ that I’d gotten for the wife for it, so I think I did pretty good. I had one of their 10mm 1911’s for awhile, but a friend liked it enough to give me more than I paid for it. Can’t say no to that!

My son in law purchased a 1911 RIA high cap 9mm recently.
We ran a couple mags. of ammo thru it and it worked fine.
For the price I was quite impressed with it.

But, he still wanted me to clean up the trigger a bit. I was even more impressed when I took the firearm apart. All the parts seemed to be of good quality and put together nicely.

I very very lightly cleaned up a couple parts ,,put it back together and gave it back to him..
Don't know how many rounds he has thru it now, but it seems to be running great..

RIA builds a good solid gun. I have had this compact 9mm for about 5 years with no problems.

I own two, a Govt. in .38 Super and a shorty in .45acp. They are both accurate, reliable, sturdy pistols.
