Ron Reed's Serious PD Ammo

Thoough not the 38s or 357s I have used his 41 Specials and they work. I ended up buying 500 empty cases in 0.41 Special headstamps and they reload nicely. All brass was Starline. Dave_n

If/when several different entities test these loads in properly calibrated ballistic gelatin using all the FBI and IWBA protocols, and get at least 12" of penetration consistently, and 1.5x caliber expansion consistently, then I'll consider using them.

Until/unless that testing happens, with the above mentioned results, I won't give any consideration to using these loads.

Not to be a dooms-day kinda guy, but I sure hope that you don't have to do a combat re-load with these. I bet that they are tough to speed load.

I would be curious to hear reports on this from the Gents who have already ordered.

I do not know why anyone would pick this load for a speedloader or speed strip, regardless of ballistics. It is hard to reload, needs to be thumb-seated in the cylinder, and so makes no sense for a backup reload.

Looks like old technology. I don't see any advantage to carrying this over the proven Speer 135gr SB that's accepted by the major PDs that still carry .38s.

If you have to do a combat reload, just how good are they then?

Pulled the bullet on one the other day don't know what kind of powder he uses but its a light load out of the new 2.5 inch 637. the bullet did not make it through a city phone book.

Pulled another and reloaded it over 4.8 of unique and that one went tright through with a start of expansion.

I think I'm going to just stick with BB full wadcutter load and unse what ever for my reloads in my back up/offduty snub!!

you can get the bullets from Northwest Custom Projectile
